How to Organize a Kitchen Renovation – Getting Started

How to organize a kitchen renovation starts with the assessment of the situation. The layout is the starting point. What do you want your kitchen to look like? The next step is assessing the work that needs to be done. Do you need to change the floor covering, install new cabinetry, update the electrical wiring, change the tiles or cabinet fronts? If you need to change the floor, would you prefer to use a tile that is easier to clean, has more wear and tear resistance or would you prefer a stone? These are questions you will have to answer based on your needs and the way your kitchen is currently constructed.

If you are going to hire a contractor to do the work for you then you might as well organize your kitchen as well home renovation. There are certain methods that a contractor will follow for each phase of the renovation. Some examples are listing the material that will be used in the project, arranging the stages (expansive or simple), indicating stages of the project, providing cost estimates, indicating materials/components needed and so on.

Once all of this material has been arranged, the next step of how to organize a kitchen renovation is to identify the roles that each individual piece plays. Are they kitchen sinks, kitchen shelves, kitchen counters, kitchen cabinet faces or kitchen backsplash tile?

It does not matter, as long as they all have similar functions. Next, you must remove everything from the kitchen and determine what pieces you can keep. This is where your skill as a shopper comes in. As we said earlier, it does not matter what you keep; it matters what you remove.

The third step on how to organize a kitchen renovation is actually placing everything back. Yes, that’s right. Once everything has been sorted out, the next thing that you need to do is to put it back where you placed it. It might sound confusing, but once you get into the swing of things, you’ll understand that putting something back where it was (even if it is just behind your cupboard door) will help make the space look cleaner and more organized. Remember, your goal here is to create an attractive kitchen that is functional as well as a pleasant place to live.

You’re already a step ahead. The last thing that you need to focus on now is how to organize a kitchen renovation. The most important part of organizing your kitchen after tearing everything out is organization. Once everything is back where they belong, you’ll have a much easier time looking for certain items whenever you are looking for them.

That’s because you won’t be bumping into things every once in a while and the search results will be organized to the point where you won’t even need to open the cabinet doors to find what you’re looking for anymore.
